Have you ever noticed that someone in a specific location found your website on Google first page while others don’t? Have you ever noticed the difference between keyword ranking report in Google Webmaster Tool and your real search results? Well, if you do, dont be surprised because you’re not the only one confused about this. It’s basically called “local SEO” which affects website ranking in a specific location. This today article is about 4 local seo quick wins for local business
Start with local contact information
Many website owners create multiple websites for different niches, service/product categories along with their official site and start waiting for keywords to rank up, hopefully!!! But they never see their sites appear on first, even 3rd, 4th pages of Google. They start asking why this happened? Why they do well on onpage seo and quality content but still in vain? Sometimes they even wonder whether their websites get penalized by Google? And again, they try to check their backlink profile, submiting disavow file or any thing that they think it could help them to be ranked up. But once again, they still see nothing.
There is a small mistake that most of website owners somehow forget or intend to skip is adding a local contact information for the sites. Most of the time, the website owners want to hide the contact information for some reasons and I dont recommend this.
Why is local business contact significant?
Back to many years ago, you only need to put keywords into the meta keyword tag, produce the content and then your website would appear on first page easily. Those days had gone, Google now is smart, it displays the search result base on many relevant factors such as location (user location, keyword location), search history or even devices etc…For example, one of projects i’ve been working on which provides local service for customers in South Florida and the office is located in Fort Lauderdale. Therefore, customers can easily find our fort lauderdale contact on the contact page and by the way, we have only one address on the website.
According to the keyword report from Google Webmaster tool, our main keywords rank on the first page, the average position is 3-5. In order to confirm this, i faked my ip address on my mobile phone to a miami ip, delete web broswer history and then made some researches by using those keywords. Bang, bang … i tried to find my website on the first page but it was not there, it was on the second and third page.
Later that, i used my brother phone and faked his phone ip to a fort lauderdale ip, and I did the same steps as above. Surprisingly, my website was on the first page and in 3-5 position.
I repeated these steps over and over on other phones and the results were the same.
As I mentioned above, Google shows search results base on your location, search history etc…if you search for a local service, google will show you the closest shops/companies/ service providers base on your current position and those service providers’ address. In this case, I were in fort lauderdale (by using fort lauderdale ip) searching for a service and my customer office address was in fort lauderdale which is displayed on the website and Google Map. Now it’s easy to understand why i got that result from my search experiment.
So, check your contact information again if you have the same problem.
Including location in keywords
Though Google now is smart enough to rank your keywords base on location, but i still recommend to include location in your keywords. This is not only helpful when people in your location but also people who are going to visit your location searching for your service, in fact they are not in your location at the time they searching. For instance, “party bus rental South Florida”, “limo service miami” etc…

This creates a huge traffic and conversion for business owner by bringing website vistits, calls, and even direction. In addition, you can also catch your customer attention by displaying rating and reviews from other customers and of course they should be positive reviews, not complaints.
